Privacy information for contact and group enquiries
Additional information about how we process information submitted through our contact and group enquiry forms.
1. Controller and general information
The operator of Backpackers St. Pauli is responsible for processing. Full details are available in the legal notice. This page supplements our general privacy policy with information about the technical processing of enquiry forms.
2. Information we process
Depending on the form, we process the information you enter, particularly your name, email address, optional phone number and booking reference, and your message. Group enquiries additionally include information about the group, travel dates, number of guests and purpose of the trip.
3. Purpose and legal basis
We use the information solely to process and respond to your contact or group enquiry. Where an enquiry concerns a possible booking or another contractual service, processing is necessary to take pre-contractual steps at your request. Other messages are processed to handle the communication properly and operate our guest service.
4. Recipients and delivery
Contact enquiries are delivered to reception@backpackers-stpauli.de and group enquiries to gruppenanfrage@backpackers-stpauli.de. The technical sender is website@backpackers-stpauli.de; your email address is set as the reply address. Hosting and email delivery are provided by STRATO.
5. Spam and abuse protection
To protect the forms, we use an invisible control field, a time-limited signed form token, a minimum submission time, duplicate and rate limits, and a limit on excessive links. The IP address and browser identifier are processed briefly to create a daily-changing pseudonymous checking key. The IP address is not stored in plain text in the technical form logs.
When the additional bot check is enabled, we use Cloudflare Turnstile. Your browser loads the check from Cloudflare when you use the form; technical connection data such as your IP address is then sent to Cloudflare. Our server verifies the result before sending the email. More information: Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
6. Storage
The website does not additionally store your name, email address or message in a separate form database. The enquiry is delivered by email to the relevant mailbox. Technical logs contain only the time, form type, delivery status, reference number and a shortened pseudonymous checking key; they are deleted automatically after 14 days. Further retention of the received email depends on the content of the enquiry and applicable legal and operational retention requirements.
7. Required information and no automatic confirmation
Required fields are necessary so that we can understand and respond to the enquiry. No automatic confirmation email is sent to the address entered. Submitting a group enquiry is not a booking confirmation; a reservation is only created once we confirm it explicitly.
